Resolution Against "Marriage Amendment"
Via Minnesotans United for All Families:
On Monday, June 11, the Maplewood City Council voted 3 to 2 to oppose the proposed marriage amendment in Minnesota. The resolution – originally brought forward by Council Member Llanas – said in part that the “proposed amendment would be would be contrary to the purpose of our State Constitution to protect the rights, privileges and freedom of conscience of all citizens” and urged Minnesotans to vote no in November.Based on past votes and comments, I'm going to guess that Marv Koppen and Bob Cardinal were the anti-gay, anti-equality votes against this resolution. But I'm very glad that the progressive majority that remains on the council did the right thing and spoke up for human rights and decency and against this bigoted and discriminatory ballot measure.
